My art is experimental in nature, and it develops organically as a series of multi-layered visual progressions that allow me to tell intricate, detailed and personal stories about my journeys, my observations and discoveries – a window to my soul.
Often old works are rediscovered, dusted off, revisited, and new avenues of thought are injected in bringing them new life and new meaning.I call this process "Conversations with my younger self".
“The process always starts with curiosity” — Ruth Kedar
My story is full of serendipitous moments, and the proverbial “life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans”.
I was born in Brazil, and my family immigrated to Israel on the eve of my 16th birthday.
On a foreign land, faced with a new language and culture, art and math were a solace. The choice of studying architecture was an obvious one, and after graduating I opened a studio specializing in environmental graphics, which was an unknown field at the time.
After five years of auto didactic work I felt that I needed to go back to school. That was the impetus for coming to the U.S. to attend the Stanford University interdisciplinary Master’s Program in Design.
The theme of my masters thesis was playing cards design, and I was commissioned by Adobe to be one of the designers of the Adobe Deck, a promotional deck of playing cards introducing Adobe Illustrator.
I still felt like I had much to learn, so I was totally surprised when I was offered the position of Art Director at Adobe, and even more so when I got invited to come back to Stanford as a Visiting Art Professor.
It was while teaching at Stanford that I was commissioned to design the Google logo.
Stanford was also seminal in reintroducing me to Art. It was there that I met Nathan Oliveira, under whose mentorship I focused on monotype printmaking.
Since then, I’ve tried to remember to embrace serendipity in all aspects of life, and especially in art where exploring and interweaving different mediums are always a source of unexpected discoveries and delights.
